Hatsume Fair ____________________________________________________________

Celebrating the first bud of spring, The Morikami’s largest annual event, Hatsume, transforms the normally tranquil Morikami Park into a unique Japanese spring festival featuring three stages with taiko drummers, a Japanese tea ceremony, martial art demonstrations, bonsai demonstrations, avenues of craft vendors, and Morikami's unique take on Anime and Cosplay. Also included are Asian and American food vendors, our Kirin Beer Garden and specialty Sake Station, as well as children’s activities.

Lantern Festival in the Spirit of Obon  __________________________________

Inspired by Obon, Japan’s traditional three-day holiday honoring ancestors and thanking them for the quality of life enjoyed by the living, The Morikami celebrates the Lantern Festival in one fun-filled evening. Entertainment includes taiko drumming, traditional Japanese folk dancing, ghost stories, and a street fair with games and shop stalls. The highlight of the evening transforms Morikami Pond into a sea of lanterns which, in accordance with Japanese custom, guide the departure of ancestors’ souls who have come for a brief visit among the living.
